On the occasion of World Idli Day on Thursday, food delivery platform Swiggy revealed that it delivered 33 million plates of idlis in all over the same period, with Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai topping the charts for the number of orders, followed by Mumbai, Coimbatore, Pune, Vizag, Delhi, Kolkata, and Kochi.
Further, the report revealed that 8 am to 10 am was the most popular window for idli orders, but consumers in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Coimbatore and Mumbai also ordered the dish for dinner. Plain idli, with two pieces on a plate, was the most common order.
World Idli Day is celebrated on March 30, a tradition that started in 2015, after popular only-idli caterer Eniyavan from Chennai made 1,328 varieties of idlis
